ART MADE FOR PEOPLE

Ib Antoni created images that lived in public space. His posters, advertisements and illustrations travelled through cities, newspapers and magazines, shaping how Denmark was seen both at home and abroad.

Antoni’s visual language is remarkably clear and immediate: a few confident lines, bold colours and a strong visual identity. The same qualities that made his advertising work travel across the world now lend themselves naturally to textile prints.

These works were never intended to rest quietly in galleries or archives. They were made to catch the eye, communicate and meet people in their everyday lives.

This collaboration brings them back where they belong: in front of people and into the streets.

ABOUT IB ANTONI

Ib Antoni was a world-renowned and beloved Danish illustrator. His work combined humour, simplicity and a strong visual identity, making it immediately recognizable and popular worldwide.

His life and career were international. Antoni lived in New York for several years, working in advertising and developing the clear, confident visual language that would make his work travel across borders. Throughout his highly productive career, he worked with more than 200 companies, including Shell, UNICEF, Volvo, Life Magazine and Neiman Marcus.

He is also remembered as Denmark’s national illustrator. His posters of The Little Mermaid, Tivoli and Copenhagen became part of the narrative of his home country: a world of clean-cut design, humour and a love of fairytales.

The international themes of Greek Mermaid and Mount Fuji reflect this outward-looking life and career, created by a Danish illustrator whose work spoke to people around the world.
